Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure

I find it weird how few Path of Fire points I have left when I don’t recall ever struggling for them, unlike the Icebrood Saga.

Let me start by saying just how much I enjoyed the expansion. There will be spoilers in this post so stop here if that’s something you’d like to avoid. I thought they handled Zojja’s return really well, I had always felt not having her rejoin us during the Kralkatorrik arc was a mistake especially with Snaff’s appearence but what they did worked. I liked most of the new characters R’tchikk, Lyhr, and Mabon particularly. Like a lot of people I feel it was a shame to reintroduce a Mursaat and then kill them off so quickly, I also found it strange they had all of the Elder races except the Forgotten, but there was a lot of in game talk about Vaas so maybe something will come of that.

Gameplay wise I did find the expansion a bit minigame-y, I enjoy Guild Wars 2 combat system but it felt like a significant number of events were very minigame heavy – or perhaps the minigame events went on too long, then there are the chests which I hardly ever bother to open anymore. I liked the Skyscale (and Griffon) additions, I’m looking forward to the next time I’m in Heart of Thorns areas to see how this impacts them, I’m not a fan of the rifts but I am going to stick out doing my weekly rifts in the hope that it’ll at least get me on the path to legendary armour. I enjoyed both the strike missions, I joined blind runs which were all welcome, feeling emboldened I finally did more of the Icebrood Saga strikes afterwards. I’m ok with the daily reward system rework but I am sad I was exactly one day short of the chest of loyalty. I do think there’s room for improvement e.g. having a choice on daily achievements, potions of PVP/WvW reward track progress could be added to the rewards, etc. So far I have the Griffon skin and 2/3 of the sanctified armour skins, after that I feel almost obligated to get the legendary chest but the only legendary I like in it is the Scepter but at the same time I prefer the gen 2 scepter. I might just get it for the gift of might/magic as that would be 200 gold of materials saved. I’ll probably grab the clovers and gold, beyond that I’m not sure.

So my goal for the expansion is to make a set of legendary armour, and probably a legendary relic. My only concern is the amount of Kryptis Essences, though one set of weeklies did provide enough for one amalgamated essence, of which I need six for the Astral Ward armour, beyond that it’s a little less clear. I need to look into how motivations work, hopefully it won’t be as grindy as it seems or maybe the grind will be made easier in future updates *fingers crossed* – wish me luck!

Guild Wars ~ 49/50

Over 70 minutes of clicking, 8500 double clicks

Found someone selling 10,000 Sweet and Drunken points. My poor stash of ectos is nearly completely depleted but two more titles down. I have just under 25% to go on cartographer and 33 more maps to vanquish until 50/50, probably going to be a little while until then.

Also made a small start on Skill Hunter, capped the 10 anniversary skills and all of the Mesmer and Elementalist core elites. Thus far it seems like it won’t be too onerous, I was a bit worried about skill points given how much I’d used my legionaire summoning stone but I forgot about the experience you get for capturing an elite, so panic over and I can continue to spam my summoning stone.

Anyway Secrets of the Obscure is tomorrow so Guild Wars is probably going to have to wait a bit before I finally wrap up.

Guild Wars ~ 48/50

I wouldn’t have objected to Cartographer, Vanquisher, Protector and Guardian being seperate titles but at least it didn’t include skill hunter.

I can’t believe it’s been slightly over two years since I last earned a point in the Hall of the Monuments, I’m a bit hazy but I don’t think I got much done last year, though I think I did achieve a very productive day of caravan vanquishing all of Ascalon and I spent new year’s eve completing Elona’s Vanquisher title. I finished Elona’s Cartographer back in April this year and since then I’ve used the Northern bonus weeks to progress Master of the North, this past week was spent in the remaining thirtheen hard mode dungeons I needed (I skipped Slavers’ Exile hard mode), I finished the Dwarf reputation first on Wednesday, the Norn reputation Friday after Darkrime Delves, and then both Ebon Vanguard’s reputation and Legendary Master of the North after finishing Rragar’s Menagerie. Which left the Asura reputation with about 8k to go which I finished this morning with a partial vanquish.

After adding those five titles my Hall of Monuments stands at 48/50 with one title to go until 49. My Mesmer is also now at 16/30 on God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals. So what next? I have just Tyria to go on Vanquisher and Cartographer, so completing that will unlock four titles. At which point I would be two titles off 50/50, feels like two of the consumable titles would be easiest. I would like to finish GWAMM off afterwards, even though realisitically I’ll have to repeat Legendary Guardian, and then probably go for the skill hunter titles. Hopefully won’t take me too long to do.

Guild Wars 2: 20,000 Achievement Points

Hope for the Radiant and Hellfire armour skins yet.

I decided to work on some Meta Achievements while waiting for Secrets of the Obscure, which has caused me to finally hit 20k! Thus far; Heart of Thorns Acts 1, 2, & 3 (one to go on 4), Path of Fire Acts 2 & 3 (already had 1), War Eternal, Jormag Rising, End of Dragons Act 5 (first four already done), New Kaineng City, The Echovald Wilds, and Dragon’s End (Seitung Harbour was already complete). It was coincidentally The Echovald Wilds that took me up to 20,014. I have also been working towards completing Champions – currently 21/24, toying with three of the tide turner achievements and I have no idea which eye infusion I would go for.

I am looking forward to Secrets of the Obscure, though I feel like we don’t know a great deal about it. The lack of elite specs is a little disapointing but opening up the previous elite spec weapons and adding a new weapon should at least give us something new to play with. I’m also looking forward to working towards the new legendary armour. Going forward, I can see other ways of expanding the game besides elite specs, for one they could expand the core class skills; e.g. looking at Guardian they only have four consecrations and four spirit weapons, or at Mesmer they only have four illusions, five glamours, and five mantras. It looks like roughly each class is missing 4 skills. Maybe Revenant could gain a new legend?

Which brings me on to some theory crafting because I love nothing more. Some ideas I have if elite specs ever return:
Guardian (Warhorn) – Caller/Keeper/Ritualist (Wells or Artifacts) – I’m picturing something that taps into ancient magics or items e.g. Storm Caller, Jade Wind, Foefire, Bloodstone, Scepter of Orr?
Revenant (Either Axe or Mace, or Focus) – Asgeir Dragonrender (or a Norn Spirit of the Wild) or an Asuran legend – I really feel sorry for the Norn that they don’t have a Revenant legend given how their lore is all about leaving a legend.
Warrior (Pistol – it was that or Short bow and it really bothers me that Warrior can’t dual wield Pistols) – Bulletproof (Survival) – Warrior is my least played class, but it really does seem weird that Pistol is the only weapon they cannot dual wield, this is entirely an excuse to “fix” that.
Engineer (Torch) – Steampunk (Spirit Weapons but renamed or Armament) – The Sylvari engineer spec! I can’t recall if I theory crafted elite specs on here before (almost certainly did), so this is probably almost a repeat but swapping out minions.
Ranger (off hand sword) – Tamer (Spirit Weapons but renamed or short lived minions) – again this is probably a repeat but Rangers love their pets and I doubt Untamed completely scratched that itch.
Thief (off hand Axe or Sword) – Gadgeteer (Gadget) – I like the idea of a Thief utilising gadgets to aid themselves with their exploits something more sophisticated than calltrops and scorpion wires e.g. holographic distractions.
Elementalist (Longbow or Torch) – Arcanist (Well) – I’m picturing something like Bladesworm, gain an F5 which swaps you to a “kit” while I picture this as an Arcane Archer mode you could go further, make the default F5 in effect a short bow but have the grandmaster traits change the F5, Arcane Archer would keep the F5 the same but up the range and maybe could make the wells do quickness or alacrity, Arcnae Warrior could change the F5 into more of a greatsword, Arcanomancer could make the F5 into a staff. Way – way too much I know. Before the reveal of unlocking other elite spec weapons, I was thinking more along the lines of changing an existing weapons skills but not anymore.
Mesmer (Warhorn) – Muse (Shout) – again probably a repeat, I would love to tap in to Guild Wars’s Mesmers’ inspiration skills.
Necromancer (Shield) – Death Knight (Stances) – … (again again) some stance ideas, a blood stance for the healing skill where you heal based off the damage you do, a bone stance where you gain protection and hopefully have some visible bones poking out of you.

I do like to ramble, anyway 17 days to go!

Edit: 9 days later, 20,500 Points! Also, The Dragon’s Reach Part 1 & 2, Heart of Thorns Act 4, Long Live the Lich All or Nothing, and Prologue: Bound by Blood are now complete, leaving only Shadow in the Ice and Visions of the Past: Steel and Fire incomplete from my Story meta achievements. Both of which look hideous to complete to me.
